They fixed it!

Le boyfriend came by and tinkered with it with some things out of the biggest toolbox I've ever seen for such a small job. When he'd taken the back off and straightened out the dent, it still didn't work, so I thought it was curtains for my little Sony Cybershot. A day or two later though, I wrangled my way to borrowing dad's camera, and noticed there was a screw missing on it. I suggested he use one of the screws from mine, since I was sadly going to be taking it to bits soon anyway. Thankfully we always see things differently, and soon I was being called into the hallway and having a mugshot taken with the miraculously working camera of mine. Hurrah! It simply needed a little rest, it seems, after being "operated on" before it was ready to rock and roll.

So the blog goes on!

A mini toaster, made using silver metallic effect clay and some metal bits (one of which came from an old lighter):

(Also a remote control for the TV, using tiny nail art gems, which as you can see cracked a bit in the oven during baking, so next time I'll glue those on afterwards.)

(This is the final version, but I might just stick it back into the lighter part I used as a mold. I think it looked better with actual metal for its casing. What do you think?)

I made the dart board out of a picture cut from a catalogue, embedded in some liquid fimo. The gem I put in the middle to prettify it oozed a little off-center during baking. Hmph! Should have glued it first. And as you can see I also made a little "baking tray" from a watch case as a mold, and a gold mirror for the bathroom.

.. it matches the goldfish. :) :) :) And that little tub might do as a bath tub if I papier maché and paint it up a bit.

I also made some tiny little bottles from beads glued together.

And today I found this really cool doorknob on the ground outside:

And I can't wait to see how the plate I'm making with it as a rim design turns out.

It's easier to just bake the plates with the metal parts embedded in them. Otherwise they can tear or distort the clay.

I've turned a sturdy old pill box into a kitchen cupboard:

Which opens! :) I'll cover that screw once I've glued the back for extra staying power and put a shelf in there to cram more canned goodies in (there are lots more printies where that can of baked beans came from! People are so kind to share their resources on the web.)

Last but definitely not least, I've been working on a fireplace to make the living room all cosy.

(The broken glass will be covered with clay or painted black to become coal, but so far I've only superglued it into a big pile.)

This is the effect so far:

To be continued...

I think the toaster looks more toaster-y with the metal!

Yep, I agree, use the metal for the toaster.

I am so stunned at how you use everyday scraps and turn them into gems!

For the bottles on the windowsill, are the beads that you used for caps hole-less beads? If yes, what size did you use?

Thanks! I have one bead that will be a "jar" and am thinking of just making a "bead" out of Fimo for it because I can't find the no-hole beads except online and don't want to make a mistake on the size. Besides, all I need is one! :)

That fireplace is awesome. I love how you've got a plantpot from a thimble... and a dinky turtle :-)

Yay for the camera! Definitely keep the metal for the toaster. I love seeing the things you make the miniatures out of, and I love the wee tree in the thimble :D
